About

Dr. Angela Hargrave was born in Natchez, MS. She has earned degrees from Grambling State
University, the University of Mississippi, Union University, and the University of Memphis. In
1995, Dr. Hargrave married Jim Hargrave, Jr. The couple made Memphis their new home and
started a family. The Hargraves are the proud parents of four children, Hillary, Allison, Zoie, and
Brandon and two grandsons, Courtland Jr. and Hendrix.


Professionally, Dr. Hargrave has worked in urban and suburban school districts for 32 years
and currently serves as the Sr. Director of Student Services for University Schools Innovative
School District at the University of Memphis. She is honored to be serving this brand new school
district at the University where she earned her doctor of education degree in leadership and policy
studies. Dr. Hargrave previously served as a Special Education teacher, Coordinator, and
Assistant Principal before moving to Student Services in 2006. In her role with the Shelby
County School District, Dr. Hargrave served to protect the rights of students and ensure that all
students had access and an opportunity to learn. She established the Department of Student
Equity, Enrollment and Discipline (SEED) and was the Federal Rights Coordinator for students for
18 years. Currently, Dr. Hargrave is a member of the Regional Advisory Committee for the United
States Department of Education, the Shelby County Citizen’s Review Panel, the Healthy

Families Community Advisory Board, the Shelby County Board of the Tennessee
Commission on Children and Youth and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.


Dr. Hargrave also served as a Steering Committee member for the Tennessee Data and Attendance Supervisors for six years and was honored by the Tennessee Association of School Social Workers with the Friend to Children Award for her work in leading the district in ACEs Awareness, Social Emotional Learning and Trauma Informed/Responsive Schools.  Throughout her career, Dr. Hargrave has been a Change Agent, bringing to life large-scale, innovative ideas that have changed the landscape of access to education, school choice, and student supports for diverse populations of student in rural, urban, and suburban public schools.

Connections for Change CDC, Inc. is dedicated to providing comprehensive wraparound services to youth and young adults (14-30) through an integrated care model. We focus on addressing social, mental, emotional, economic, and spiritual well-being, emphasizing trauma-informed practices, cultural competency, and a client-centered approach. Our goal is to empower individuals to lead productive lives while enhancing resilience in the community. By bridging service gaps and creating strategic partnerships, we offer sustainable support that evolves with each client's needs.
